Personalised Kinder Bag With Name: Sizing and Setup Guide

A personalised kinder bag with a name is a made-to-order backpack embroidered with your child's name, so they can recognise their own bag on the hook, carry it themselves, and settle into kinder or childcare with a little more confidence. Our Melbourne studio hand-embroiders each backpack to order, most often in the Regular size (39 x 29 x 13cm) that suits kinder and childcare children aged three and up.

Why a name belongs on a kinder bag

At kinder and childcare, a room of near-identical bags hangs along a row of low hooks. A name embroidered on the front does quiet, useful work: a child can find their own bag before they can read, educators can return it to the right hook, and lost property stays rare. It also gives a new starter something that is unmistakably theirs on a morning that can feel unfamiliar.

Because the lettering is stitched rather than printed, it holds through daily wear and the wash, which matters when a bag is handled several times a day, five days a week.

Which size suits kinder and childcare

We make the backpack in two sizes. The Regular (39 x 29 x 13cm) is the usual choice for ages three and up, from kinder and childcare into primary, with room for a change of clothes, a drink bottle, a hat and a comfort toy. The Small (32 x 25 x 11cm) suits younger toddlers aged one to three who are just starting a few days of care.

If your child sits between stages, our size guide sets out the dimensions and what fits inside each, so you can choose for the year ahead rather than the month.

Personalising the name

Each bag is embroidered with up to ten letters, in a choice of five fonts and fifteen thread colours. First names read best across the front, and a shorter name in a rounded font tends to be easiest for a young child to recognise as their own. Threads range from soft neutrals to clearer brights, so the name can sit quietly against the canvas or stand out on the hook, whichever helps your child find it fastest.

The backpack itself comes in five colours, Olive Tree, Blush, Koala Grey, Walnut and Lavender, in a durable cotton canvas chosen to wear in rather than out.

Made to order, so plan ahead

Every backpack is made to order at our Melbourne studio and takes five to seven days before it posts. For a first day at kinder or childcare, or the start of a new term, ordering a week or two ahead leaves room for making and delivery. Shipping is Australia-wide and free over A$80.

You can start your child's bag on the personalised backpack page, or read more on settling into care and back-to-school in our journal. Choosing for someone else's little one who is starting kinder? Our personalised kids gifts hub gathers a few ideas.

Questions parents ask

What size kinder bag should I order?

For kinder and childcare children aged three and up, the Regular (39 x 29 x 13cm) is the usual fit. Younger toddlers doing a few days of care often suit the Small (32 x 25 x 11cm). The size guide shows what fits inside each.

How long does a personalised kinder bag take to make?

Each bag is made to order at our Melbourne studio and takes five to seven days before it posts, so ordering a week or two before the first day is wise.

Will the name wash out?

No. The name is embroidered in thread, not printed, so it holds through daily handling and washing.

Can I match the name to my child's favourite colour?

Yes. There are fifteen thread colours and five canvas colours, so the name and bag can be as quiet or as easy to spot as suits your child.
