The Welcomenest gift guide, by stage
Share
A personalised gift solves a problem generic ones can't: it's the one present at the party that won't be duplicated, re-gifted or lost in a drawer, because it's got a single child's name stitched into it. The trick is matching the piece to the stage the child is actually at, rather than defaulting to another outfit — a newborn has no use for a library bag, and a primary schooler has aged out of a comforter. Here's how we'd choose from our own range, stage by stage.
Newborn
For a baby shower or a new arrival, reach for something that earns its keep in the first exhausting months rather than something purely decorative. A muslin wrap set or a hooded baby towel gets used daily from week one, and a Native Koala comforter is small enough for a newborn's grip and becomes the thing they can't sleep without by six months.
Toddler
Toddler gifts do best when they solve a logistics problem the parents already have. A backpack sized for daycare, a wet bag for the inevitable swim lessons and spare-clothes changes, or a wide-brim sun hat all sit at the practical end of "thoughtful" — the kind of gift a tired parent is genuinely relieved to unwrap.
Kinder
This is the stage where a child starts managing their own things, and a gift that supports that independence lands well. A library bag for their first borrowing card, a lunch box and drink bottle set, or an art smock for the year of messy play ahead — all things on their actual kinder list, so the gift doubles as one less thing the parents have to source themselves.
Primary
Primary-age gifts can afford to be a little more grown-up. A structured school backpack built to last several years, a pencil case for a child starting to care about what's actually in their pencil case, or a swim bag for the sport days ahead — pieces that acknowledge a child is old enough now to have preferences.
A note on timing
Every piece here is hand-embroidered to order in our Melbourne studio, which means production takes five to seven business days before it ships — worth building into your timeline if the gift is for a specific date. Baby showers are usually easy on this front, booked weeks out; a kinder graduation or a birthday a fortnight away is where it pays to order early rather than at the last minute. If it's a gift rather than a treat-yourself order, leave a note at checkout and we'll send it without the receipt and with a small handwritten card, at no extra cost.
